Is there a Weekly Price Guide for Coins?
Is there some type of weekly paper that comes out that tells dealers what they should sell most coins for???
I thought I saw one in a coin shop today, but figured the guy would not let me look at it... It seemed like everytime he was quoting a price to me or someone else, he was looking it up there... I'd like to get something like this because I'd like to buy a few coins a week nothing major, but being new to coin collecting, I'm afraid to get ripped off when I buy something... I mean, the dealer could say Ohhh, Here we have a sweet (insert coin, year and grade), I can let it go for ehh, about $xx.xx How am I to know if i'm getting a good deal, fair or bent over the counter.... I don't expect anything for free at all, but I don't want to get taken advantage of... I looked around and I can't find much on this... |

Google gray sheets. I think that's the price guide. It's just a guide so be careful.

Try Coin Dealer Newsletter. This is the formal name for the Greysheets. www.greysheet.com

I like Coin World too. You also get access to Coin Values, with your subscription. My dealer recommended it. Worth the cost, if you use it. IMHO.

Greysheet is compiled asking and bid prices on sight seen coins.
Bluesheet compiled asking and bid prices on sight unseen coins. Around $100 a year weekly publication. I go to PCGS.com and look at the crazy high retail - the price assumes PCGS certification. BUT then I go to eBay and search completed auctions and see what people are really paying. Coin dealers are making 20-30% difference between asking and bid prices. You get better deals on eBay if you trust the grader or can grade the images themselves. If you get a grade that is one point lower than you expected (and paid), you could lose big - unless you stick someone else. If you don't learn to grade yourself, you will get taken. It is so sick out there right now, people are being taken big time - spend $30 on a $50 coin and walk out happy, only to find out it is over graded and worth $15... If I grade and see a bargain I think I can resell for a profit, I buy it. Otherwise, I buy silver. |

That is a nice zoom. They show grading populations and previous sale prices too. Nice link. Thanks.
